Well, today we (my mum and I, John was working in NC) took Catherine to her day-care for a couple of hours, just to make Monday a little easier (thanks Jen Fish (whose last name isn't Fisher anymore but when you go back 21 years it sticks) for this great idea). It was more than AWFUL it was HORRENDOUS, back in August I spent all this time looking into the PERFECT place, I thought I had done a good job, I hadn't. Well, in my defense, the director changed, as have the infant teachers.
We went into the infant room to find the teacher in the rocking chair and all 8 babies screaming in their cribs. Now, had she had a baby in her arms I would have understood the other babies crying, but she didn't. She was just sitting there looking at them all, blaming it on the fact that DSS has told them that they can't have bumpers anymore and now the babies can see the teacher. SO, I reluctanly leave Catherine with this lady, I of course am crying.
So we head off to the office to fill in the paperwork, while we are in there two other teachers come in and are fighting in the office about who gets to use the gym during lunch. Now, my thought at this point is who is with the their class while they are in here arguing over the gym. It was unprofessional and the straw that broke the camels back.
My mum and I left, leaving our little Catherine there. I got in the car and cried and cried and cried. We immediatly set out to find another place, there was no question that she was going to stay there. We went to one daycare, the one I knew I should have signed her up for in February and they were wonderful, we got there and I, of course, cried. Their waiting list was 20 babies long, we added Catherine's name knowing full well that she wouldn't get in.
Next, we went to a brand new and when I say brand new I mean it opened on Monday place. It was secure, clean (of course), they have a cirriculam even for babies, they eat in a cafeteria instead of the rooms, they wear booties on the carpet to stop the spread of germs, they had books, games, blocks, educational toys...I could go on and on. The only problem, it is $100 more a WEEK. I loved the teacher, I loved the concept, I just got the warm and fuzzies!
I called John (crying of course) and he being the great husband and dad that he is told me that we would go and look at it when he got home and that we would somehow find a way to come up with an extra $100 a week (if only money grew on trees). We went, we saw, we signed the papers, she will be the first baby that they have and she starts on Monday.
John went to the old place and they didn't seem to be shocked that Catherine wouldn't be going back.
I will let everyone know how Monday goes.
